United Way Women's Power Lunch Single Parent Scholarship Application

       

United Way of Siouxland’s Women’s Power Lunch and Women Aware are currently offering scholarship awards for Siouxland single parents.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Single head of household (where children age 18 or younger reside)
  • Siouxland resident for at least two years
  • Working part time or full time is highly encouraged
  • Taking or intending to take a minimum of six college credit hours per semester at one of the following college partners:
    • Briar Cliff University
    • Morningside College
    • Northeast Community College - South Sioux City, NE College Center Location ONLY
    • St Luke's College
    • Wayne State College - South Sioux City, NE College Center Location ONLY
    • Western Iowa Tech Community College
PURPOSE:
To assist single parents to further their education and improve their life and the lives of their children.
 
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The criteria for selection award are:
  • Financial Need
  • Scholastic Merit
  • Community Service and/or Work
  • Educational Objectives
  • Hardships or special circumstances may warrant additional consideration.
SELECTION PROCESS:
An independent selection committee makes the determination of successful applicants for a scholarship.  Applications are reviewed and graded by the selection committee and finalists are determined. The finalists then must appear for a personal interview.  Additional information to better determine the qualifications, capabilities, or financial need of any applicant may be requested.
 
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:
Awards typically range from $1,000 - $5,000.  Estimated number of Scholarships Available:  Ten
 
REQUIRED UPLOADS:
Throughout the application process you will need to upload either a digital copy or clear digital photo of the following:
  • Proof of Single Parent Status
  • Proof of Residency (Siouxland resident for the last two years)
  • Proof of High School Graduation
  • High School Transcripts
  • Post Secondary Education Transcripts (if applicable)
  • Three Letters of Reference

If you do not have the ability to upload documents to application, you may complete the application on-line and provide copies of documents to Women Aware.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:
Question:  How are scholarships distributed?
Answer: Single Parent Scholarships are for one school year.  Women Aware®makes payments, twice a year, typically in two payments (one on August 31 and one on January 31).  Payments are made directly to the school. 
 
Question:  If I received a single parent scholarship last year; am I eligible to apply this year?
Answer: Yes. 
 
Question:  What is considered the “Siouxland Area”?
Answer:  The Siouxland Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) includes Woodbury County, IA, Dakota County, NE, Dixon County, NE, Plymouth County, IA, and Union County, SD.
