- 1921 - United Way of Siouxland founded in 1921 as the Community Chest. Its mission was to bring organizations together to help identify community needs, provide services to the poor and raise funds to support their work
- 1940's - During World War II the Community Chest of Sioux City changed its focus to raising funds to support the troops and families impacted by the war and depression
- 1960's - All Community Chests from across the nation formed an alliance to better serve their communities and grow the fundraising campaigns in the workplace. This alliance became known as the United Fund and the Community Chest of Sioux City became the United Fund of Siouxland. 16 agencies were members of the United Fund of Siouxland
- 1972 - The United Fund became the United Way. At this time the United Way of Siouxland had 22 agencies affiliated with it
- 1988 - United Way launches A.S. Garretson Society
- 1995 - United Way of Siouxland partners with the Le Mars community to create the Le Mars United Way, increasing service to Plymouth County
- 2000's - The United Way began to re-evolve back to its roots of being more than a fundraising organization. Today the United Way of Siouxland works with local agencies, businesses, government organizations and volunteers to focus resources on achieving community impact in education, income and health around specific goals. 24 agencies receive annual funding and over a dozen other partners work in conjunction with the United Way to reduce the achievement gap in our schools, eliminate violence and improve access to health services
- 2001 - United Way of Siouxland holds first Women's Power Lunch with 340 attendees and keynote speaker Marcia Wallace
- 2006 - United Way launches Women United. United Way invests in their online data base ANDAR. They also move to a Community Impact model
- 2010 - United Way goes online with their annual Community Impact grant application process
- 2012 - Young Leaders Society began
- 2013 - United Way of Siouxland helps found the United Ways of Iowa, a statewide collaborative of 26 Iowa United Ways
- 2015 - The FOCUS Grant process is developed to expand outreach of United Way of Siouxland
- 2021 - United Way of Siouxland celebrates it's 100th anniversary
