United Way of Siouxland’s Women's Power Lunch is an event where women can be nurtured through education, strengthened through empowerment, and valued through friendship. Women's Power Lunch provides the opportunity for women to unify their resources and take the lead in focusing on issues that impact their lives.
The 2019 Women's Power Lunch was held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Delta Hotels Center. The keynote speaker was Victoria Arlen! The Power of the Purse Raffle was held at the conclusion of the luncheon with nearly 100 purses and five grand prizes up for grabs.
Proceeds from the event fund the scholarships and certification grants awarded each year to single parents in Siouxland who qualify for assistance.
Victoria was 11 when she came down with a rare viral disease which she battled for five years – four of which she spent in a vegetative state. The disease left her without the use of her legs for almost a decade. Having been a lifelong swimmer and athlete, Arlen never gave up hope of competing in the Olympics and in spring of 2012 she qualified for the London Paralympic Games in four events. While there she won a Gold Medal and three Silver Medals. Despite missing five years of school due to her illness, Arlen graduated on-time with her triplet brothers in 2013. Arlen is now an on-air personality with ESPN reporting for numerous programs including Special Olympics, Invictus Games, and The ESPY Awards.
